Recently, the Doctor Flue team took a service call to provide a new homeowner, Margaret, with instructions on proper operation for her gas fireplace. Because the fireplace was new to her, she wanted to understand how to safely operate it. Our technician, Mike, went out to show her how to light the pilot light and safely turn on the fireplace. It was a simple task, but one thing led to another…
Once the ice-cold fireplace began to heat up, the tempered glass window shattered from the extreme temperature change. We immediately contacted Majestic, the manufacturer of the glass door, for a replacement. Unfortunately, we were informed that the part was no longer available, and we would need to replace with a new custom piece of glass. Majestic provided us with the measurements; however upon receiving the new ceramic glass, we discovered it would not work with the existing gasket.
Any other chimney company might have delayed the correction of the problem. But, here at Doctor Flue, we decided that the best outcome for Margaret was to simply replace the old, outdated, and no longer supported fireplace with a new, higher efficiency model. And as an added bonus, the fireplace came standard with a durable ceramic glass door!
